ING U.S. Supports New York City’s Decision to Cancel Marathon

November 2, 2012

ING U.S., title sponsor of the ING New York City Marathon, announced today that it fully supports the decision made by New York City officials to cancel the race on Sunday, Nov. 4.

ING U.S. recognizes the need for the city to focus its resources on the immediate disaster relief and recovery efforts following Hurricane Sandy, and applauds the city’s decision.

The ING Foundation, the company’s charitable giving arm, has made a $500,000 contribution to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to support immediate and long-term disaster-relief and recovery efforts.  The company is also matching its employees' contributions to relief efforts.

ING U.S. understands that many people, businesses, as well as its own New York-based employees have been impacted by Hurricane Sandy this week. The company encourages everyone to consider making a donation or to volunteer with a nonprofit that is helping with disaster-relief effort if they are able to do so.
